The Mood Swings originated in the year 2000 when Judy Johnston of Brewster, Washington, and Jill Fetty, now of Houston, Texas, worked together on the Gershwin musical Crazy For You. The genius of the Gerswins reminded Judy of the many hours she spent as a child listening to the great standards and swing tunes of the 20th century which her father adored. Jill and Judy called on another theatre buddy, Georgia Spencer, and the excellent pianist, Richard Gregory, and began putting together a song list of jazz and pop standards sung in three part harmony.
Over time the personnel has changed and the band currently consists of Judy Johnston, CaraMia Vance, Betsy Rainsford, Don Pearce (piano) and Greg Johnston (drums, sound engineer). Each of the three singers has many years of vocal performance in their resumes, with credits from musical theatre, rock, blues and country bands, community choirs and solo showcases. Their unique blend of voices and emphasis on upbeat swing music and pop standards have become favorites of North Central Washington State audiences. Don Pearce, music teacher at Omak MS/HS, has been a professional musician for all of his adult life as a teacher and performer. Greg Johnston has been a drummer and guitarist with many bands, currently performing as a solo blues guitarist/singer as well as being a central part of The Mood Swings.
